Quiet time at work

Things are finally winding down at work this year. It's been frantic, and there's still no shortage of things for me to do, but lots of people are on holidays. There's time to sit back a little and take stock. I like to make lists to keep track of what I need to work on sooner or later. Now is a good time to make sure they're all up to date, and nothing has fallen between the cracks.

In a larger sense, I appreciate having a job I like doing, even if it seems like a four ring circus at times. But even more, I appreciate just how good life is. It isn't that we have a lot of money, or things, though we sorted out kitchen cupboards the other day and found 58 mugs. Fifty eight! We couldn't believe it. The Sally Ann will be getting about half of them, along with some other stuff.

I walked home from the LRT station today, and simply enjoyed being able to walk briskly and easily. There are people that couldn't do that. My wife and I are both healthy, (not counting a cold) which too many of us take for granted.

A week ago the cab I was in crashed against a guard rail. We weren't going all that fast and I was wearing a seat belt. The driver wasn't and got a face-full of steering wheel. It could have been much worse for both of us in more ways than I want to think about. As the various emergency services people were taking care of things I watched another, potentially much worse accident nearly happen. All it takes is a moment of inattention, and the result is a trip to the hospital or worse.

Please take a few minutes this holiday season to appreciate what you do have, and spend some time with your loved ones. Do something for those less fortunate. Even if all those other people in your way are being jerks, try not to treat them that way. Lets cut each other a little slack. They have lives too.
