Udderly Art Cows
One of the things I like about Calgary is that you never quite know what's going to happen next. The first I knew of it some painted cows started showing up. Not cheesy plastic cows painted to look like cows, but bright, cheerful fiberglass cows. A group called Udderly Art was promoting painted cows as street art, eventually to be sold off to raise funds for charities.
One overcast day Linda and I walked around downtown and took photos of the cows we liked. We didn't get to see all of them; there were well over 100, and not all were downtown. We started our tour near the courhouse. Many of the cows were threre for safekeeping during the World Petroleum Congress in 2000.
This is right opposite the 5th Street LRT station, so I'd been looking at
it from a distance for several days, and wanted a closer look.

This one was just around the corner, and was part of a long line of cows
down one side of the building. Linda said the pink cowbag was just me.

Linda liked this cow quite a bit, though we thought that cramming it into
that tiny picket fence must have taken a lot of work.

Those who know me will not be surprised to find that the Bernard
Callebaut chocolate cow was my very favourite. I'm not sure who had
the jaws that took the first bite.

This was one of my favourite cows. The photograph really doesn't do justice
to the colours and sense of depth.

Here's part of the roundup.

Here's another part of the
roundup. Both the roundup photos were taken within a few feet of each other.

I couldn't resist. I just
couldn't. Such a fine handful! Moo West was just outside the lobby of the
Delta Bow Valley Hotel.

This cow was just outside The International Hotel. I had to walk past it
every day, and actually got a little tired of looking at it.

I'm glad that someone did a cow for STARS.
They run an air ambulance service that flew over 1,000 flights in 2000.
The Cow itself was just outside Eau Clair mall.

This cow was outside the
Sheraton Hotel.
